Since its establishment, Wilson Benesch has invested heavily in ambitious research and development projects in materials science and manufacturing. Endeavor 3Zero has refined numerous Wilson Benesch cutting-edge technologies over more than thirty years in its flagship floor-standing speaker design.
Endeavor 3Zero is based on Discovery 3Zero, adding extra air volume in a larger enclosure, thus giving more power and composure to the larger of the two siblings.
Like the smaller Discovery 3Zero, Endeavor 3Zero places the Fibonacci hybrid domed tweeter directly at the acoustic center of the bass and midrange drivers. The sound transmission is perfectly balanced, tonally balanced, natural, and seamlessly integrated. Listening to Endeavor 3Zero is a confident experience.
Through expert design, craftsmanship, deployment of advanced material technologies, and geometric optimized components, Wilson Benesch has created an uncompromising floor-standing speaker design. Design
Tactic 3.0 Drivers
The structure at the diaphragm center plays a crucial role in the behavior of the driver. Usually referred to as the “dust cap,” this name underestimates the importance of the component. In Tactic 3.0, Wilson Benesch has added Fibonacci elements.
The Fibonacci elements are produced internally using additive manufacturing technology and can be printed according to pre-designed parameters. The precision of the additive manufacturing software is so high that Wilson Benesch’s design team can see the optimal layering of carbon fiber and nylon in cross-section and perform 3D design, defining the stiffness and weight of the entire structure. The result is a new geometry composed of a hyperbolic curve with open and closed aspects, again inspired by natural geometry in the form of a lattice structure. Five different materials and adhesives significantly improve the accuracy of frequency response and reduce distortion.
This is a key aspect of the relationship between the driver’s ability to integrate with its high-frequency tweeter and low-frequency driver. In the past, several materials were used to fine-tune this marriage. Additive manufacturing has opened a new chapter in pursuing this subtle yet crucial aspect of speaker design. For the first time, all the main aspects of this structure can be adjusted in ways previously impossible.
FIBONACCI Silk Carbon Hybrid Tweeter
The latest iteration of Wilson Benesch’s high-frequency speaker technology is built upon its Semisphere high-frequency design, pushing it to the next generation. As with all Wilson Benesch designs, the progress of the previous generation is based on iterative R&D. With the Fibonacci tweeter, progress has been made in the structure adjacent to the motor and hybrid dome. The Fibonacci tweeter panel is made of a carbon fiber-nylon composite structure, forming a geometric optimized structure—Fibonacci Element—which is inspired by sacred geometry found in nature. ACT 3ZERO Bio-Composite Monobloc Enclosure
The Fibonacci series introduces a full range of Wilson Benesch speakers, all made from the new ACT 3Zero bio-composite monobloc. The new monobloc enclosure not only represents a significant advancement in acoustic performance along Wilson Benesch’s reference line, but also embodies a deliberate and conscious move toward natural, renewable, and sustainable materials technology.
Isobaric Drive System
All speakers in the Fibonacci series use the isobaric drive system for their primary low-frequency loading. Here, two Tactic 3.0 drivers combine to form an isobaric drive system. The Isobaric Drive System is responsible for reproducing incredibly tight and controlled bass response, which is perfectly integrated with all other bass drivers in the speaker enclosure, especially the midrange Tactic 3.0 driver.
Invisible: Carbon Fiber Composite Dome Roof
Wilson Benesch installs a beautiful sculpted carbon fiber composite dome roof in its reference line speakers. The inspiration for these forms comes from naturally occurring organic shapes, curves, and flowing lines in nature.
The carbon fiber dome roof is an extremely complex shape, created by hand-carving in clay and then laser scanned, followed by loading into Wilson Benesch’s advanced 3D digital computer-aided design (CAD) software. By importing data in this way, Wilson Benesch is able to further optimize the 3D form before manufacturing with powerful software algorithms.
When longitudinal sound waves hit a flat surface, the sound reflects coherently. However, the reflective properties of the structure change according to the shape of the surface. Non-flat surfaces diffract sound wave energy instead of directly reflecting it, and the sound energy is almost undiminished, which is considered colored in HIFI systems. Therefore, the complex “invisible” form is crucial to the speaker’s performance. By removing any flat reflective surfaces and creating a highly complex structure, all reflected sound energy is scattered. This reduces its energy and avoids standing wave patterns in the listening space, which are easily detected by the human ear as distortion or coloring.
13MM Steel Tied Rod: Vertical Axis Compression
The Endeavor 3Zero enclosure uses a 13mm threaded steel rod to withstand tons of compression. The steel rod runs through the length of the enclosure and the integrated bracket. They connect precisely machined large aluminum feet with an elegant base, which is then connected to the Endeavor 3Zero top panel. These vertical steel rods apply tons of compression on the vertical axis where the first resonance mode appears.
